The guys behind Soho’s “gourmet” kebab eatery Le Bab have confirmed the opening of their next restaurant this spring.

Maison Bab will represent a modern kebab house with a hidden 10-seater chef’s table, and will be located in Covent Garden’s new Mercer Walk development on Seven Dials.

Although an alcohol bar will be part of the package, FtL can confirm that “the new restaurant will also be serving halal chicken and lamb, with measures in place to prevent cross-contamination.”

And with Le Bab’s head chef Manu Canales Garces – former sous chef at two Michelin-starred Le Gavroche – in charge of the menu, expect the food to match the high standards set by its sister site, which was rated 4/5 ROARS by FtL (read the full review here).

Yes, the new restaurant will also be serving halal chicken and lamb, with measures in place to prevent cross-contamination.

While Maison Bab will also be paying homage to the authentic kebab houses that inspired Le Bab, its menu will introduce a new style of kebab with “more punchy, bold flavour combinations on offer”.

The six-strong kebab menu (all priced under £10) will sit alongside a selection of modern mezze, sides and desserts, with ingredients that will “focus on quality, seasonality and provenance”.

All kebabs will be “handmade from scratch using ancient charcoal-grill traditions coupled with modern culinary techniques [and] served in house-made flatbread”, so expect the following wraps to impress:

  • Onglet kebab with fresh green peppercorn mayo and dressed watercress.
  • Vegan option: Slow-grilled celeriac shish with carrot puree and crispy onions.

Split across two floors, Maison Bab will offer 40-covers at ground level, a further 30 in the basement, and will mostly offer walk-in tables, with reservations taken for groups of six or more, as well as serving takeaway and delivery to the Covent Garden area.

A hidden back room, nestled downstairs behind the kitchen, will act as Manu’s intimate chef’s table that will seat up to 10 guests around the open kitchen.

Launch date and further details on the chef’s table restaurant will be published in due course.
