Halal Scottish Munchies enjoy Korean Munchies in Edinburgh

HALAL STATUS Halal chicken only • Alcohol & pork served

Took a trip down to Korean Munchies on Nicolson Street; a cool little spot and very busy, especially during the Edinburgh Fringe.

Always double-check when you arrive, as not everything on the menu is Halal, such as the beef, which we had presumed may have been.

While the chicken is Halal, we were also advised that the Tteokbokki (crispy fried rice cakes) contain alcohol, and the Honey Soy dip isn’t Halal either.

They have strict cross-contamination policies though, with the chicken being cooked completely separately.

Half & Half Korean Corn Dog was easily the standout item for us; crispy on the outside with that epic cheese pull inside, topped with Korean sweet chilli and white onion sauce.

You can go for cheese on its own, chicken, or half & half. The halal corn dogs are cooked separately. Great price and a really decent portion too.

For those who love Korean fried chicken, then the Korean Boneless Fried Chicken is definitely a standout. Crispy, juicy and packed with flavour.

A lighter option would be the Tuna Kimbap, with tuna, rice and veggies wrapped in seaweed. Fresh and a nice change from the fried options.

The Kimmari crispy seaweed rolls filled with glass noodles have a lovely crunch on the outside with soft, savoury noodles inside, while the SFC Mango Soda is a sweet, refreshing mango-flavoured Korean fizzy drink. Went down nicely with all the fried food.

Overall, a cool little Korean street-food spot in the heart of Edinburgh. The corn dogs were easily the winner for us and definitely something we’d come back for.

As always, check the Halal status with the team when you visit, particularly as the menu contains non-Halal beef, pork and other ingredients.
