Salt’s Smokehouse smash it with perfect 5/5 in London Ealing
HALAL STATUS Fully HalalSalt’s Smokehouse made history in July of last year by launching west London’s very first fully Halal smokehouse.
Located in Ealing Broadway’s Uxbridge Road, this place has since acquired quite the reputation online having amassed an impressive 4.6/5 stars on Google reviews.
Catering for 104 diners, the restaurant is rustically designed with an eye-catching mural that extends down one side of virtually the length and breadth of its interior.
Salt’s Smokehouse offers a variety of slow-smoked barbecue meats with beef brisket; beef short ribs; lamb ribs; chicken, which includes wings in six different flavors; and a range of smashed burgers.
Our review of them, on this occasion, encompassed all these meats as part of their carefully-designed Ramadan menu.
This comprised of a full- and half-platter that can be ordered online through their website via their partners Seven Rooms.
RAMADAN MENU
RECOMMENDEDHere is Salt’s elaborate Ramadan full platter, which has been designed for at least four guests, with a half platter also available.
There’s simply no denying the fact that this ticked practically every aesthetic box one would expect of smoked meats, with sufficient condiments to boot.
Cutting to the chase, we couldn’t fault anything on this platter, from their signature wagyu brisket (250grms), wagyu short ribs (1 bone) and lamb ribs, to their quarter chicken and chicken wings.
Not only was the slow-cooked wagyu brisket as tender and succulent as they come, but the “secret blend of Middle Eastern and Asian spices” they boast about just elevated this to arguably the best all-round brisket we’ve ever had.
And neither could we get enough of the incredible wagyu short ribs, as we delighted in its sophisticated flavours, thanks again to that secret blend of spices serving as its seasoning, and textures; from the crusty exterior to the juicy flesh beneath.
As for the lamb ribs, then the marination that glazed its top didn’t just ensure a crispy exterior, but one which delivered the delicious combination of said spices in conjunction with the hit of smokiness.
As for the poultry, then, once again, the sweet and spicy marination coupled with the grilling process resulted in superb chicken, which, on any day other than it being pitted against such extraordinary beef, would have been the talk of the town.
The sheer effort involved in executing their menu was further demonstrated by their Tallow Fries being cooked in the rendered fat of the beef, rather than plain oil, to help them stand out from the crowd.
What’s more, this platter also came with a trio of stonking inhouse sauces (Carolina Mustard, Chipotle BBQ, and Chilli Jam), as well as palate-cleansing sides: coleslaw, sumac onions, and gherkins.
And if that wasn’t enough, their epic homemade Mac & Cheese, whose blend of cheeses and “secret spices” ensured an almost truffle-like taste, turned out to be dangerously addictive.
BURGERS
RECOMMENDEDThis Oklahoma Smash was astoundingly good. Seldom have we taken a first bite only to be left shocked to the core.
It was all about the unmistakable umami taste and aroma of the 21-day dry-aged beef patty that stood out for us.
Add to that the truffle mayo’s earthy undertone, the grilled and fried onions’ sweetness, and the piquancy of the cheese lingering in the background, and we have here a sure-fire contender for our end of year awards.
RECOMMENDEDIf things couldn’t get any better, they go and pull out this Pulled Brisket, with the texture of shredded beef perfectly adjudged.
Often when beef is pulled in this manner, its texture either tends to err on the dry side, or it turns out too gloopy in a misplaced attempt to avoid said dryness.
Salt’s solution was to mix the beef with just right quantity of sauces, which culminated in each bite being met with uber succulent beef that was packed full of that umami goodness.
The addition of the caramelised onions and cheese only enhanced the experience to the next level. The best we’ve had!

Chipotle Smash – 21-day dry-aged beef patty, grilled jalapeños, chipotle mayo, double cheese, £11.99
As for those who enjoy a spicy oomph to their burgers, then this Chipotle Smash ought to be your order.
Although it didn’t quite have a flavour profile as engaging as the previous two, this was still plenty good, with enough chipotle mayo to complement the chilli heat.
DRINKS
RECOMMENDEDSalt’s offer a pair of premium shakes which aren’t just satisfyingly thick and creamy, but also committed to the single flavour they’re delivering.
So whether it be peanut butter or pistachio, rest assured you’ll have plenty of it coming through to satisfy.

The result is freshly-smoked beef that can be dispensed to up to a hundred diners. What we were served cemented the fact that they have something seriously good going on, with the variety of smoked meats we got to enjoy in this phenomenal Ramadan platter being nothing short of extraordinary.
What sets Salt's Smokehouse apart from the few others we've been to, is how strong their all-ground game is. Their smoked meats boast the best flavours, courtesy of this "secret blend of Middle Eastern and Asian spices". We've had smoked meat at other places which, while managing to achieve that signature red ring that borders the perimeter of a well-executed piece of smoked beef brisket, don't quite deliver a flavour profile as sophisticated as the one we marvelled in here. Add to that the burgers we had, two of which being their most popular in the Pulled Brisket and the Oklahoma Smash, and we were floored.
All in all, a flawless effort that results in Salt's Smokehouse in west London being rated a perfect 5/5. This means that this could be one of the capital's best, fully Halal smokehouses. But don't take our word for it; go visit and shake our hand later.
