Queen of Sheba in London’s Tyburnia is an underrated Yemenite gem

I’ve been to this restaurant a number of times and believe that it’s criminally underrated; thus, this review to shed some light on it.

For those who know, including the Yemeni community in the area, the Queen of Sheba has been quietly doing what it does best in London’s Tyburnia since 2005.

In addition to loads of seating indoors amidst a cosy interior, there’s also comfy seating outside with an extended awning for those looking to relax.

Mix Grill (Queen of Sheba Special) – Lamb & chicken cubes, minced lamb kebab, lamb chops, with 2 sides, £50

Although everything’s Halal in terms of food and drinks, they do unfortunately serve shisha, which explains the outdoor seating. But inside, it’s kosher, with plenty of traditional Yemenite dishes to try.

Freshly made giant bread

There’s one I have to get when visiting, and that’s their Queen of Sheba Special Mix Grill, which comes with grilled skewers of lamb cubes, chicken cubes, minced lamb kebab, lamb chops, and a choice of two side dishes.

Yes this grill is £50; but given the portion size, the freshness and quality, and the quality of the sides, it’s worth the trip to this place alone.

Just make sure that you order this with one of their gigantic breads – fresh out of the oven, and goes really well in making pocket-sized minced lamb kebab.

Laham Mandi – Baby lamb steamed for several hours and served with mandi rice.

Otherwise, if you ask them what they’ll recommend as a stand-alone dish, they’ll tell you right off the bat: the Laham Mandi.

And there’s a good reason why too, because with their baby lamb having been steamed for several hours in a marination of herbs and spices, the result is succulent, fall-off-the-bone meat, that’s paired with fragrant mandi rice.

Honestly, there’s plenty more to choose from. Go down and give these guys a try, as this is truly a hidden gem that so many food influencers have left neglected.
