Well, neither had we until we visited this dessert parlour Kreemlicious in Willesden Green.

This idea is popular in the Far East where street food vendors and dessert parlours make use of what’s known as an Ice Pan (below) to clatter out these beautifully made “fried” ice cream rolls from almost any variety of ingredients.

With the pan set to between -40°C to -30°C, a blend of creamy milk and whatever ingredients your heart desires – be it fruits, a chocolate bar or even a cake – is added therein and immediately set upon, before it freezes and firms up, using two metal cutters to pound and pummel the mixture and merge it into an amalgam. This is then thinly spread about the pan before being quartered and rolled up into the dainty and pretty looking ice cream rolls you see below.

And here’s the end result:

DESSERTS

Berry Sorbet

Deliciously refreshing! The raspberry drizzle on top combined to deliver a tangy-sweet taste that held our attention to the last bite.

Nutella Cheesecake

This was outstanding both in terms of the nutty-chocolatey flavour and the delicately firm, yet smooth almost gooey-like texture.

Definitely recommended this one!

Reese’s Peanut Buttr & Orea (2 scoops £3.50, signature £4)

A nice creamy texture, with the Oreo and peanut flavours coming through fairly well.

Of course, the theatre behind this idea is all in the clanging and clatter of the metal cutters working their magic, in combination with the Ice Pan, to transform two disparate sets of ingredients into something special that resembles traditional ice cream, though not quite.

If anything, the method used to produce these rolls seems to us to deliver a type of ice cream that would rival, at least in terms of texture, almost any high end equivalent. There’s a certain luxury to these “fried” ice cream rolls that make them stand out from the crowd, especially on a hot summer’s day when we visited.

Little wonder the owner was keen on introducing these here after falling in love with both the concept and the end product during his recent travels across the Far East.

Kreemlicious currently has a lunchtime special – half price off everything (valid from 1pm-3.30pm Mon-Fri), and is available for private hire and events.

And believe it or not, it can also be ordered through online delivery service, Deliveroo.

  • I saw this in Thailand. Didn’t have the courage to try it there due to hygiene but will go for this in London. Looks amazing.
