A charity in east London is requesting the contribution of Halal meals for an initiative that provides meals to the vulnerable in Tower Hamlets.

Neighbours In Poplar (NIP) has been delivering 139 meals twice a week to elderly and deprived families in the borough since Covid started last year.

Having provided “multi-faith care” and practical support to the vulnerable across Poplar for over 50 years, NIP began its ‘COVID-19 Response Project’ in March.

But the registered charity is now calling for Halal or vegetarian meals to be provided in order to meet the demand for food required on Sundays.

Volunteer Amrana, who is also the Life Skills Manager at Splash, a sister-charity whose “vision is to create an inclusive community”, told FtLion that meals were required for this Sunday.

Amrana, who is a grandmother of two with 20 nephews and nieces, said: “My manager started this Covid project in March 2020 and we have just carried on by the Will of the Almighty.”

She also revealed that Splash has organised a helf-term ‘Holiday Hungry Club’ for deprived children to take advantage of for four days next week in addition to food packages being delivered to local families.

Amrana said that she has been involved in a youth programme too which organises Umrah trips to the blessed city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

“I have taken 11 young people so far and planning on taking five more this year when the pandemic is over,” she said.

Anyone wishing to contribute meals to the ‘COVID-19 Response Project’, which has delivered over 9000 hot meals to residents across the borough, can contact Amrana @amrana_super_amz.
