Not so Don Tacos, who’ve absolutely disrupted the scene in Manchester since their launch in 2020, as the first Halal “authentic Mexican restaurant” to open on the famous ‘Curry Mile’.
This 24-cover branch looks the part too, with colourful TexMex paraphernalia that includes Mexican hats, a life-size vaquero (that’s a Mexican cowboy to you and us), and an eye-catching wall mural depicting a dusty rural desert town.
Having made their spectacular launch in Bolton’s Deansgate back in 2016, Don Tacos holds the distinction of being “Britain’s first Birria Tacos”.

Of course, you can’t visit a Mexican place and not indulge in birrias, especially their best-selling four-corn Birria Tacos.
Here, the tender slow-cooked beef is beautifully enveloped in plenty of gooey cheese, making this dish a popular choice.

Otherwise, it has to be their 10″ Birria Quesadilla which, despite being new to the menu, has already become a favourite with regulars.
With a meat tortilla entirely coated in two layers of piquant cheese, these are grilled to perfect before being presented with homemade consome and guacamole.

On the other hand, if you enjoy succulent strips of grilled meat tossed in peppers and onions, then it has to be Don Tacos’ Fajitas, which isn’t just served with warm soft-flour tortillas, but also refried beans, Mexican red rice, guacamole and a tangy salsa verde.
The idea behind this medley of fresh and vibrant colours and textures is to simply alternate from perhaps building your own wrap, to enjoying the chicken with the delicately flavoured rice.

Of course, there’s plenty of other items to consider too, such as their Enchiladas, which comprises a trio of soft tortillas that are filled with your choice of meat, and actually topped up with Enchilada sauce and a blend of fresh cheeses before being baked in the oven.
