After months of delays, the doors to Nusr-Et steakhouse were finally (and literally) flung open by the owner himself in London’s Knightsbridge.

Turkish chef and restaurateur, Nusret Gökçe, better known as ‘Salt Bae’, welcomed in person the initial queue of diners to his fancy restaurant at the The Park Tower hotel.

Having risen to fame on the back of a viral video published over a decade ago that saw Nusret using a theatrically unique meat seasoning technique, the chef has been especially busy these past two years having opened 15 steak restaurants across the globe.

While Nusr-Et is reportedly offering a Halal food menu, this is not your typical steakhouse, with an expensive menu whose signature dish alone – a giant Tomahawk steak that is covered in edible gold leaf – will set you back an eye-watering £700.

Given the food entertainer’s popularity, dining at this high-end restaurant will certainly be hard to come by, with reports of bookings not available until November.

Imagine there’s people dumb enough to pay money for this. – Halal Food Guy (food blogger)

After vouching for the Halal food status of the restaurant, one well-known Halal food blogger with over 100k followers was also “lucky to walk in and get a table” on opening day.

Example: 41 items, £1,812 = £44/item (£11 Red Bull)!

Although Instagrammer My Big Fat Halal Blog didn’t comment on the restaurant’s overall price range, instead concluding that “all the food was delicious”, other food bloggers have.

Halal Food Guy was particularly scathing in his assessment tweeting: “Looking at some of these ridiculous prices for the new Nusr-Et restaurant that’s just opened in London. Mad.”

Observing that “the chips cost more than the famous Triple cooked chips from a 3-star michelin chef,” before commenting: “£25 for dessert? I’m dead,” he also added: “Imagine there’s people dumb enough to pay money for this.”

Meanwhile Haloodie Foodie amusingly quipped: “Let me talk to my mortgage advisor! Need to work out the remortgage before I attend!”

With restaurant booking-website Square Meal averaging the price of dining at Nusr-Et to be “over £80”, one receipt that’s making the rounds on social shows 41 items costing a total of £1,812.40 (£44 per item), where a Red Bull alone costs £11 each, with service charge coming in at £236.40!

Nonetheless, there’s been plenty of positive reaction towards the new opening, with Birmingham-based Halal blogger, Umar Eats, promising to “come to @nusr_etlondon just for the Baklava and ice cream alone”.
