wazir mixed grill ilford

Wazir (Turkish) – Ilford

wazir

Never go to Loaded Burgers in Ilford on a Saturday evening (and perhaps even Sunday) without booking ahead.

We’re assuming that the empty tables that comprised a quarter of the venue space were prebooked, otherwise you’ll be refused entry – queue or no queue (in our case the latter)!

Thankfully there’s Wazir Turkish Restaurant & Charcoal Grill across the road.

This newly opened venue is huge and wants to make its mark with the ever-growing Pakistani community of Ilford.

The first thing you’ll be overwhelmed by is the sheer heat let off by their humongous grill – just take a look at that bad boy.

Not sure how long this’ll last, but you get a complementary (free) portion of naan bread along with a very well made salad.

Word of warning for those who can’t handle their chilli: although you get a Greek yoghurt dip, you also get a chilli sauce dip that’s killer hot.

#Wazir #turkishrestaurant e got the Wazir mixed grill for two; but, in all honesty, this could have sufficed three or even four. There was only a single Lamb Shish Kebab, which though moist and hot off the grill, lacked in flavour. The Lamb Adana was fantastic though: soft and tender with a charcoal taste in the background. But the chicken, which made up most of the platter, was horrendous. It was virtually unmarinated and, therefore, bland! The two types of rice, however, complimented such a large portion of meat. Over all, it wasn’t the type of experience we were after. Lacking in flavour as it did, this place reminded us of Kervan Sofrasi. They could really do with visiting Divan to understand a thing or two about tasty kebabs. #feedthelion #halalfood #halalfoodie #halal #foodblogger #foodie #food #halalfoodlondon #foodporn #foodgasm #foodpics #kebab #kebabs

Summary
On a positive note, the service was slick; and even with around a 100 customers, it literally worked like clock work.

The staff were very helpful, and we were also impressed to see how well they catered and looked after families with toddlers. Kudos to just hard working and efficient staff.

  • A fair few Turkish restruants around this area and thought we’d try this one as it was new. Wouldn’t go back! Food was extremely disappointing. Lamb was tough and full of gristle, chicken was dry and the rest of the food on the plate was bland.
