Returning to Yaki Ya! to try their latest beef ramen

Following our raving review of Yaki Ya! in London’s Edgware, which was rated 4.5/5 last year, we headed back for a newly-introduced ramen bowl.

Yaki Ya! Halal Japanese Restaurant London FinchleyThis time it was in north west London and Finchley’s Frognal, where their branch has somewhat of an unusual split-front setup, with the middle occupied by an entirely independent business.

So while the restaurant’s main entrance serves as the area in which customers can place their orders or wait for their takeaways, the dining area is located around the corner in a separate section.

With fully Halal, quality ramens being somewhat of a rarity in London, our return was to give their latest beef ramen bowl a try.

MAINS

Yaki Ya! Halal Japanese Restaurant London Finchley

NEW Beef Ramen with cooked egg, spring onion, spinach, seaweed, lime, £17.99

Now this ramen was literally the gift that keeps on giving, with plenty of sliced beef to enthral.

While the broth itself didn’t quite manage to deliver on that deep beefy umami taste we were hoping for, its mild spicines was good without being exceptional.

With the beef being sprinkled with spices, the eggs were runny enough to add that extra dimension, with the noodles being nicely coated in that broth.

But just the sheer amount of beef was impressive, with one slice placed atop another right down to the bottom.

And with such beef ramens being rare to find, we’d recommend travelling to Yaki Ya! for this alone.

Chicken Ramen with egg, spring onion, spinach, seaweed, lime

RECOMMENDED

The Chicken Ramen was just as good as the first time we had it, with a rich and buttery broth that boasted precisely the depth of flavour its beef counterpart lacked.

With the eggs perfectly runny this time, and the tender chicken cut up into rough strips, we couldn’t get enough of this.

Duck Teriyaki with rice, stir-fried vegetables, ramen egg, sesame seeds, spring onions, £16.99

RECOMMENDED

And finally that extraordinary Duck Teriyaki, with juicy chunks of meat marinated in sweet and spicy teriyaki sauce before being slow-cooked to absolute perfection.

With stir-fried vegetables, a ramen egg as gooey as you’d want, and smothered in sesame seeds and spring onions, you’ll be lucky to finish this huge bowl in one go. Superb!

Summary
With a fully Halal beef ramen being a rarity in London, it didn't take much convincing for us to go try Yaki Ya!'s latest addition. And what an addition it was too. Didn't quite level up to the standard of its Chicken Ramen cousin, but plenty good enough nonetheless.

If you haven't tried any of their ramens, you should. Just don't forget to save some room for that amazing Duck Teriyaki rice bowl.
