‘The Food District’ first Halal food hall in London Edgware Road
It’s safe to say that when it comes to the Halal food scene in London, there’s arguably nothing quite like The Food District in Tyburnia.
Since opening last week on Edgware Road, this has been the talk of the town for food influencers across the capital and beyond.
With 13 kitchens offering a fantastic range of cuisines from across the globe (and two kitchens currently without operators), the hype seems entirely justified, with a visit mandatory.
Spaciously set out and brightly lit, there’s seating galore with tables extending down the dual aisles, and sufficient space to navigate to and fro.
It’s obvious that plenty of thought and consideration has gone into both the layout and its aesthetics, with a Mediterranean-inspired design that incorporates water features and lush indoor greenery.
Loaded buns concept Bunify has four sites already established in London including Harrow, Ealing, Shepherd’s Bush, and a ghost kitchen in Kensington.
They serve long rolls loaded with both beef and chicken. With wings and tenders to boot, as well as fries, they also offer dessert items.
If you fancy Moroccan food, then Casa Street have signature sandwiches stuffed with lamb cubes or chicken, and homely brunches.
They also serve authentic Moroccan mint tea which can be had with either mille-feuille or msemen pancakes coated with either nutella or amlou.
East London’s smashed burger brand Chicos also have four branches across the capital with sites in Wood Green, Leyton, Aldgate East, and East Ham.
Alongside their signatures, they also do burgers, wraps, sides, fries, dunkin’ dips, and churros.
Doner Kebab Point by Danube have a similar-sounding brand called Danube Kebab Point located in London’s The Mall Stratford.
Now the ‘point’ is the point at which Turkish cuisine fuses with Balkan and Mediterranean cuisines to deliver something different.
Five Rivers Rotisserie is a new brand which, going by the name, offers rotisserie whole chicken that’s said to be marinated in “bold spices”.
They also offer Lava Charcoal Wings, Falafel wraps, and Halloumi among their veggie choices.
Flip & Sear are a burger brand that guarantee what they call “the wagyu experience”. They’ve been situated in Hawley Wharf’s food court in London’s Camden, so come with know-how.
With a solid following on Instagram and TikTok, their burgers certainly do look the part.
If you’re craving for those robust South Asian flavours, then Mirchi Bazaar is the kitchen to hit.
As a new business, they offer a number of classic Pakistani Lahori dishes and snacks from starters to curry mains and even desserts and drinks.
Okawari combines Japanese, Thai, and Filipino food that includes things like sushi, classic tempura, dumplings gyoza, spring rolls, calamari, teriyaki shrimp, yaki tore kushi, a selection of salads, soups, and more. Plenty going on here.
Rice & Roast offers “authentic Halal Asian roast and Hainanese chicken rice” by bringing “the time-honoured flavours of Malaysia to London”.
What’s impressive is the availability of roast duck, peking duck, a variety of ways in which chicken is served, and more.
If you’re after the strong flavours and vibrant colours of Mexican cuisine, then The Taco House is the place for you.
With a site in east London’s Green Lane, they serve Mexican Birria Tacos, House Tacos, general tacos that include The Philly Cheese or the Maghebi, and other items.
Specialising in Indian street food, Tikka Nation Express has eight sites across the country including Birmingham, Dorking, St Albans, Watford, and London’s Uxbridge among others.
They serve classic street food staples like quick snacks, Bombay streetbuns, loaded fries, chaats, wraps, mini kathi rolls, curries, grilled tikka, dum biryanis, and even Indo-Chinese.
The Wicked Fish say they are dedicated to gluten-free fish and chips; and the demand must be there because they have four sites in total now.
Also located in Hackney Wick, Spitalfields, and Vauxhall, they serve up fish and chips, burgers, buns, chips, and other goodies.
Finally it’s authentic Chinese flavours with Young Wang who are ideally situated at the entrance of The Food District.
Dishes include Chicken Chow Mein, Schezuan Chicken, Beef in Black Bean, Singapore fried noodles, and a number of stir fried dishes.
