Inaugural Gatwick Halal food festival kicks off tomorrow

gatwick-food-festival-halalThe first ever Gatwick food festival will be aiming at celebrating the Halal culinary richness of its diverse communities tomorrow.

The inaugural event will be made all the more unique being not only 100% organic and vegan-friendly, but also having the stamp of approval from the Halal Monitoring Committee (HMC).

Kicking off at 11am, the event will be taking place in Crawley’s Cherry Lane Playing Fields until 7pm with free entry and free parking.

Event director Azam Riyard said he hopes to “bring together thousands of foodies as well as master chefs and different cuisines from different parts of the globe”.

“We aim to make Gatwick a destination of culinary choice for people other than just the use of the airport, and this is the start,” he added.

With live cooking demos by the likes of HS&Co’s head chef Hamza, also known as ‘The Great British Halal Chef’, MasterChef 2012 winner Shelina Permaloo will be hosting the cooking theatre.

There will also be cook offs hosted by Youtubers Halal Hangouts, as well as craft and artisan traders, and raffles, along with a kid’s zone and a fun fair making this a family-friendly event.

Aside from all the food and fun, each stall holder will also be giving 10% of their proceeds to the event’s partner Forgotten Women, a charity run by women for women that’s dedicated to helping women in crisis and emergencies.
