A famous Turkish purveyor of sweets and delicacies will soon be opening its first store in Europe this coming summer right here in the UK.
Hafiz Mustafa 1864 is aiming to open a large 1,000 sqm2 site in London’s Knightsbridge in the next “4-5 months”, it has told FtLion.
Located opposite the luxury department store Harrods on Brompton Road, this 150-cover eatery will also house five VIP rooms as well as an inhouse masalla for prayers.
With its headquarters still located in Istanbul where it began in the 19th century, the brand currently has over 15 stores, mostly across Turkey but also one at the Mall of Dubai in the UAE and Qatar.
The brand was founded way back in 1864 by Hadji Ismail Hakki Bey, who was “one of the first producers of sugar-candy” during the reign of Sultan Abdulaziz, according to their website.
The website further reveals: “It is well known that Hafiz Mustafa is the first to have found and manufactured the salty pastry called pogaca. Hafiz Mustafa won 11 medals in Europe in the areas of bakery and confectionery between the years 1926 and 1938”
Presently said to be run by the Ongular family since 2007, Hafiz Mustafa began by making rock candy, but today offers Turkish delights, baklavas, puddings, breakfasts, teas and an assortment of sweets.
