The response to MPs callously voting against the motion to continue providing free school meals to the vulnerable during this half-term school holiday has been astounding.

None more so than from Halal restaurant owners who have come forward with such incredible generosity to offer their assistance.

In fact, since reporting about three such restaurants last week, there’s been so many others that we couldn’t go without publishing this inspiring list.

And if there’s a restaurant we’ve missed out, please let us know in the comments section below as we will be updating this page periodically.

OUTSIDE LONDONLONDON
BIRMINGHAM

Alam Restaurant (356 Coventry Rd, B10 0XE) – Selected free meals for 4-16 year olds, Sat-Thur between 12.30pm-2pm and 2.30pm-4pm on Friday, until 1st November. Contact them via DM (@alam.restaurant) or email [email protected] atleast 30 mins before arriving for collection.

BEDFORDSHIRE

New Bombay (53B Harpur Street, MK40 2SR) – Sandwiches, etc., available for under 16’s. Open Monday to Thursday, 12pm-2pm, on a first come first serve basis. Meals will also be supplied for those in need. Call 01234 218218.

DURHAM

Babul’s Express (9 Market Place, Barnard Castle DL12 8NF) – Pledging 1500 meals (grilled chicken and fresh vegetables), 100 meals available everyday to collect between 4pm-5pm for the next 15 days. Take what you need, no questions asked.

HERTFORDSHIRE

Meating Room, The (307 High Street, Berkhamsted, HP4 1AL) – People in Berkhamsted DM (@the_meating_room) or call 01442 879994 to arrange a collection of a free meal.

MANCHESTER

Lucky’s Diner (118 Featherstall Road, Oldham, OL9 9BX) – Contact the restaurant on 0161 624 6666. Open 7 days a week from 4-11pm. Walk-in or collect a free meal during the half-term holidays.

NEWCASTLE

Gostos Grill (73 London Rd, Newcastle-under-Lyme, ST5 1NB) – Free lunch over half-term for children.

SLOUGH

Big Boy’s Kitchen (69 Salt Hill Way, SL1 3TT) – Despite being closed, you can message them on Facebook @bigboyskitchen1 or Instagram @big_boys_kitchen with full confidentiality.

SOUTHAMPTON

Lakaz Maman (22 Bedford Place, SO15 2DB) – Free meal for under 16’s on a first come first serve basis. Email [email protected] with meal choice: Chicken Cari with Saffron Rice; Butterbean Cari with Saffron Rice; Chicken and Mango Wrap; Butterbean Wrap. Await reply and collection instructions (Mon-Fri, 5-6pm).

Uni Kebab (190 Burgess Rd, SO16 3AY) – Free school meal Mon-Fri between 12pm-3pm, collection only. Email [email protected] with name, collection day, and meal choice: 1. Chicken doner, salad, rice/chips. 2. Lamb doner, salad, rice or chips. 3. Chicken nuggets with rice or chips. 4. Onion rings with rice or chips; and await reply before collecting. Children under 12’s must be accompanied by an adult.

SUFFOLK

Eastern Spice (418 Woodbridge Rd, Ipswich IP4 4EL) – Email [email protected] with name and meal choice: Chicken or Veg Kurma with Pilau Rice; Chicken or Veg Massala with Pilau Rice; and await reply for collection details between 5.30-7.30pm, available 26-30th Oct.

Rivaaz Lymington (7 St. Thomas Street, SO41 9NA) – Call 01590 679999 for free meal to takeaway from 12-2.30pm on 28-29th, Sat 31st October, and Sun 1st Novemeber.

SUSSEX

Asiana (114 Hermitage Road, St Johns, Woking, GU21 8TT) – Free meals on a first come first served basis for under 16’s during half-term. Email [email protected] and meal choice: Chicken tikka masala with Pilau Rice; Chicken Korma with Pilau Rice; Veg Curry with Boiled Rice. Await email reply for collection details (between 5pm – 6pm).

Batman Grill (147 Battle Road, Hastings, TN37 7AE) – Children between 4-16 can visit with parents and pick up a Kids Box from 3-5pm on Monday-Friday.

Club House, The (Cherry Lane Playing Field, Langley Green, Crawley RH11 7NX) – For food or a hot drink, head to @theclubhousecrawley.

YORKSHIRE

Howdy (Bradford: 375 Leeds Rd, BD3 9LY; 483 Bradford Rd, LS28 8ED) – Free meals for under 16’s from 26th Oct until 1st Nov between 3pm-5pm for collection at either: 375 Leeds Road (01274 722277) or 483 Bradford Road (01274 664466).

Beyroots Lebanese Street Food (Unit 70 Broadway Market, 29 Tooting High St, Tooting, SW17 0RL) – Open Wednesday to Saturday, lunch available from 12-2.30pm for 2 weeks. Parents accompanying kids are welcome to eat too!

Kyice’s Kitchen (76 Brick Lane, Whitechapel, E1 6RL) – One free Caribbean kids meal per child during the half-term holidays @kyiceskitchen.

Maryam’s Kitchen (82 St Mary’s Pl, Ealing, W5 5EX) – Limited number of free lunches available for collection during half-term. Place an order by emailing [email protected], DM (maryams.kitchen_), or phone 020 8840 6633.

Royal Mahal (32-36 Upper Tooting Rd, Tooting, SW17 7PD) – From 26th-30th October (12-2pm), parents can email [email protected] with name and meal choice: Chicken Curry with Pilao Rice; Chicken Karahi with Pilao Rice; Punjabi Cholay (Channa Masala) with Pilao Rice; Tharka Dhaal (lentils) with Pilao Rice; and wait for a reply with collection details.

Wings London (22 Boston Rd, Hanwell, W7 2DG) – From 26-30th October, any child aged 5-16 can come and receive a free lunch meal between 12-3pm.
