Many people may not be aware that restaurant chain KOKORO actually cater for Halal across all their branches.

The sushi-specialists have confirmed with FtL that all 20 locations across the country, including five in London alone, have been serving Halal chicken since they first opened in 2010.

Spokesperson Jean told FtL: “We provide Halal chicken to all our branches,” before confirming that “we have introduced halal chicken since 2010 [sic]”.

While pork is also available on the menu, Jean clarified: “Although we do share the same kitchen and some of the appliances for cooking, the chances of mixing up with different food ingredients especially for pork and chicken is virtually nil [sic].”

Halal Chicken Certification

KOKORO’s first branch was opened in Kingston-Upon-Thames, Surrey, by founder and CEO Mr Park after “find[ing] it hard to come by a place where he could eat simple, cheap but decent oriental food”.

Since then, they have been serving fresh “hand-made sushi” with food being “cooked on each premises” as “an alternative to the day-to-day pasta, sandwiches or salads”.

Currently, KOKORO have a wide variety of chicken dishes that include the following ‘Hot Food – Main Dishes’:

  • Chicken Teriyaki – Grilled or pan fried chicken with teriyaki sauce
  • Spicy Chicken Curry – Slowly cooked Baltic chicken curry
  • Sweet & Sour Chicken – Fried chicken mixed with sweet and sour sauce
  • Sweet & Chilli Chicken – Fried chicken mixed with sweet and sour sauce
  • Chicken Katsu Curry – Chicken katsu with JAVA curry sauce

And of the ‘Soups, Sides and Salads’ available, there is also:

  • Chicken Katsu Udon
  • Chicken Gyuza Udon
  • Chicken Gyoza Set
  • Chicken Katsu
  • Fried Chicken Dumpling
  • Chicken Katsu Salad

Although Japanese dumplings often contain pork lard, Jean further confirmed: “No pig ingredients in our dumplings. We only offer chicken dumpling and vegetable dumplings.”
