OG Burgers stand out from crowd in Edinburgh food tour

When researching the best Halal restaurants to visit for FtLion’s iconic restaurant food tour of Scotland, we were alerted to this new burger joint by sheer reputation alone.

While it’s barely been a year since OG Burgers first opened its doors in Edinburgh’s Gorgie Road, the brand already boasts a 4.9/5 Google rating.

What’s more, this 12-seater eatery, with its larger than life branding, has already been nominated for the Scotlands Business Awards this year.

With half-a-dozen carefully crafted chicken and smashed beef burgers defining its fully Halal menu, OG Burgers also serve some quality donner meat.

But it was ultimately their trio of viral Box Meals, with an OG Smashed box meal, a Peri Peri box meal, and a Top G box meal, which requires being showcased.

What makes OG Burgers the big draw they are?

You can understand why, when you come face to face with the above burger, the Icon Smash with its triple-tier beef patty, is one of OG Burgers most popular items.

All the flavours are accounted for here, with turkey bacon giving a smoky edge, caramelized onions delivering a touch of sweetness, and plenty of American cheese.

Topped with beautifully crispy onion rings, and just enough OG house sauce and salsa sauce to bring everything together into a harmonious whole, this burger at £9.95 is worthy of the hype.

But if you’re looking for the best of both worlds, then here’s a pro-move that many customers come back for, and that’s combining the smashed beef patty with a fillet of peri peri chicken.

And though this burger smacks hard when upgraded to a meal that includes crispy fries and a soft drink for £3.50, what’s really needed for just an extra £2.95 is a thick and luscious shake, of which there’s a dozen to consider.

With dipped chicken burgers being all the rage these days, OG Burgers’ version is really well crafted, thanks to their secret spicy homemade sauce.

With the fried chicken fillet thoroughly dipped in a sauce as rich and tantalisingly as this, all that’s needed thereafter is the simple addition of red onions, a chilli sauce, the cooling effect of mayo, and a slice of melted cheddar cheese.

Coming on to the OG Smash Box meal, then this is where OG Burgers really stand out from the crowd, with a box that offers an all-round experience.

There’s plenty of flexibility too, with three box types available: one with a Simply Smashed burger, another with a Spicy Chicken Zinger burger, and a third with a Smashed Combo burger, as well as add-ons to your hearts content.

Otherwise, while it comes loaded to the rafters with fries, a pair of crunchy wings, a drink and a dip, it’s OG Burgers’ stir-fried donner, which can be topped with cheese for that little extra oomph, that makes these boxes hit the high marks.

They may be new on the block, but you better believe that OG Burgers have already justified why they really are the OG in Edinburgh. Be sure to pay them a visit when in town.
