Bengal bistro Tantara to open in Newcastle Jesmond
HALAL STATUS Fully Halal food menu • Alcohol servedA fancy new Bengali restaurant will be launching later this month in Newcastle upon Tyne’s Jesmond.
Tantara will be opening a sizeable site on Osborne Road on Monday 23rd March with reservations “now open”.
With the restaurant taking its name from a trumpet’s call heralding a moment of attention, Tantara has confirmed with FtLion: “Yes all of our food will be Halal; it is Muslim owned.”
Having opened in tribute to the owner’s father, the interior has been “inspired by the cabin cafés of Old Calcutta, places of conversation, comfort, and quiet ritual”.
Said to be “crafted from the food of Bengal, a region that spans East Bengal, now Bangladesh, and West Bengal in India”, their menu offers street dishes taken from the bazaars of that region, a selection of curries, as well as a lunch menu served from noon until 2pm.
