International Japanese restaurant Benihana will be celebrating the launch of their second site in London with 50% off the food menu.

Located on Maiden Lane in Covent Garden, the Teppanyaki specialists have also told FtLion that not only do they cater for Halal chicken but also the much sought after wagyu beef.

But while non-Halal meat is also served therein, Benihana has informed FtLion of a solution to the problem of cross-contamination on their Teppan grills.

The established franchise, which has been operating since 1964, said: “We serve Wagyu as Halal meat. Also our chicken is Halal as well,” before adding: “If you tell our staff, then we can make your course in the kitchen or cook your main course separately apart from another customers main course on the Teppan grill [sic].”

As with most Japanese cuisine, Benihana too has confirmed the use of the following alcohol-based sauces during the cooking of certain dishes: “Although evaporated, in our Miso sauce (for Black Cod) and our Teriyaki sauce we use Sake and Mirin; so these dishes should be avoided.”

With the half-price offer available for the duration of this first week, Benihana offers a number of Halal dishes.

While the Teppanyaki experience may not be suitable for the Halal diet, the traditional Hibachi lunch and dinner include the options of both Halal chicken and Australian wagyu, with Small Plates of Chicken Gyoza also served.
