Scotland food tour: Big burgers & desserts at Big Licks in Glasgow

Continuing FtLion’s epic restaurant tour of Scotland, Glasgow’s Big Licks is a great example of just how strong the Halal scene is in this part of the country.

Located in Braille Crescent’s business park just off the M8 (junction 26) in Renfrew, this spectacular 100-cover venue has free parking aplenty for its customers.

Big Licks have another branch situated towards the city centre in Skypark’s Finnieston Street, as well as a third in Manchester’s The Printworks.

With a fully Halal menu that boasts two equally impressive sections revolving around desserts and smashed burgers, there’s a reason why this brand is a popular family destination spot.

Having initially started as a dessert parlour, Big Licks are all about fresh food, with their ice cream being made at a production unit virtually down the road.

Alongside their Soft Serve Sundaes, which comes in seven flavours, their freshly-made Cookie Dough is their best seller.

In addition, they also serve Crepes, Waffles & Pancakes made fresh to order, a dozen Milkshakes, and Thirst Quenchers in the form of Big Licks Slush and Hot Drinks.

With a dedicated unit that produces freshly-made ice cream and gelatos, it’s only appropriate that we start off with these.

While they do Tubs & Cones: 1x scoop £3.50, 2x £5, 3x £6.50, 4x £8, 8x £12.50; they also do Soft Serve, which they use to make their attractive Sundaes, and what’s called The Twist, which cleverly combines two flavours into one.

Not only are these ice creams and gelatos made from organic Ayrshire milk, but are also eye-catchingly displayed in expansive cabinets that show off their full range alongside an impressive selection of cakes, brownies, and cheesecakes.

Combining any other dessert therefore, including this freshly-baked, soft and gooey Cookie Dough, should essentially be a foregone conclusion.

What’s more, you can either go Classic (£7) by choosing a Choc Chip or White Choc base along with a topping, Premium (£8.50) by considering a choc bar and complimentary drizzles, or an indulgent Brookie that stcks it up with a freshly baked brownie (£8.50).

Their Waffle, Crepe, and Pancake (£8.50 each) range can be enjoyed in the following six ways: Fruity n’ Saucy, Mallow Mayhem with marshmallows and their signature Raspberry Sauce, Triple Chocolate with all things Oreo, Kinder to the Max, Bueno Bliss, and Lots a Lotus with biscoff biscuit galore.

On to Big Licks’ savoury menu and their mouth-watering Smashed Angus Beef Burger (single £8.50, double £10.50, triple £12.50, quad £14.50).

While their beef is sourced as free-range and grass-fed from none other than Hill Farm Finest, they also do a Buttermilk Chicken Burger that can be had as an Original, Katsu, or? BBQ (£10.50 each)

Just be sure to pair these up with one of their Loaded Fries, because as good as these burgers were, the Buttermilk Chicken below was simply on another level.

The fries are cooked in high heat to ensure a crunchy finish, topped with nuggets of crispy battered chicken, and smothered in piquant nacho cheese sauce, before being finished with a sprinkling of crispy fried onions, jalapenos and a drizzle of their inhouse ranch sauce.

We could mention their herbaceous Fresh Mozarella Squares being cooked to a crisp finish, but truth be told, there’s plenty of other reasons for multiple return visits to Big Licks.

Their menu is so well rounded that they even do a Loaded Flat Top Hot Dog (£10.50), a Chicken Tender Wrap (£6.50), and a pair of salads, and so much more.

It’s obvious from the above that Big Licks, with their all-round menu, are a place to hit when you’re in Scotland’s Glasgow.
