40% off Bonda by Duck & Noodle authentic Halal Chinese
The last time FtLion collaborated with the owners behind Bonda to offer 40% off their entire menu, the response was huge.
Well, Bonda is again generously offering the same discount (T&Cs apply, see above for details) that’s redeemable per person from Monday to Thursday, between noon and 5pm, until 24 July 2025.
Having first opened Bonda Kitchen in Paddington’s Sussex Gardens, the sister-brand Duck & Noodle was eventually launched in Bayswater.
Although the former eventually closed, and while the latter is being renovated for a reopening in September, the husband and wife team launched this restaurant earlier this year in April.
Combining the two concepts, Bonda by Duck and Noodle in Tyburnia’s Sale Place presents a menu that serves the essence of Halal Chinese; a rarity in London.
The restaurant is elegantly designed, and split up into two halves, with tables for 20 guests in the front half, a section at the back for an additional 20 diners that can be hired as a function room, and a convenient prayer room downstairs in the basement.
What sets Bonda apart as a purveyor of premium Halal duck from virtually all other restaurants, not just in London but also the rest of the UK, is that it has both the knowledge and, more importantly, the specialised onsite facilities.
With a traditional Chinese ‘Bullet Oven’, they are able to roast their ducks on a daily basis, thereby ensuring the freshest servings possible.
Could Bonda serve the best Halal ducks in the UK?
With Bonda by Duck and Noodle having all bases covered when it comes to the preparation and cooking of their ducks, the end result, as can be seen below, speaks for itself.
There’s an astounding choice of duck dishes with Roasted Duck Spring Roll starter, Roast Duck Fried Rice, Roast Duck Noodles, Roast Duck with Rice, both Aromatic and Peking versions, and a Malay duck Mee Goreng Mamak.
Of course, having a roast duck being brought over to the table and shredded in situ is a spectacle in itself, with duck pancakes filled with hoi sin sauce, cucumber and spring onions culminating in the ultimate finger food.
Bonda are reknowned for their Dim Sums too, from the assortment of eye-catching Rainbow Dumplings, which are steamed to show off some vibrant hues, to the popular Custard Buns, which are soft and fluffy bao buns filled with a sweet, creamy custard.
For more traditional dumplings, there’s the beloved Shanghainese Xiao Long Bao, which is filled with a rich meat-soup filling, as well as the classic Prawn Hargaw, with the juicy prawn filling attractively visible through the translucent wrapper.
There’s a selection of fish-based dishes to consider, with seabass coming in five different ways, including this gorgeously fried version topped with a superb sambal sauce.
There’s plenty of other items that might go under the radar but have to be ordered as a matter of priority, with simple flavours that kick way above their weight.
While the crustaceans in the Sweet & Sour Prawn are perfectly deep-fried in a tantalisingly tangy sauce, a great vegetarian option is the Stir Fried Mix vege.
Otherwise, you can go traditional with the Kung Pao Chicken, and perhaps pair that with the Chicken Mee Goreng Mamak below.
This latter dish epitomes the meaning of the Cantonese word wok hei, which literally means the “breath of the wok” – referring to the charred, smoky aroma that’s imparted into the food during the high-heat stir-frying process in a wok.
And to finish off proceedings, you’ll be remiss not to give one of Bonda’s traditional desserts a try, particularly the ever popular ABC Bingsu, and especially in this summer heat.
With the ABC standing for Ais Batu Campur, which means “mixed shaved ice”, this kaleidoscopic bowl houses a number of elements, which include coloured jelly, to deliver a refreshingly addictive finish to any meal.
