Leicester Halal restaurants & takeaways on London Road
With articles published covering Halal food at restaurants and takeaways in Leicester city centre and the famous stretch of HMC-dominated Evington Road, we continue with London Road.
As part of FtLion’s Halal restaurant food tour of Leicester in 2022, this editorial covers an area that doesn’t seem to receive as much attention as the two aforementioned despite offering plenty of cuisines.
While the venues on this road comprise of a mixture of fully Halal and Halal-friendly restaurants, and not nearly as many HMC-certified eateries as on Evington Road, there’s 17 places to consider.
THE BARN

The Barn is an interesting place whose rustic interior really appears to add to the overall experience. They offer a range of gourmet smashed and chicken burgers.
BOO
HALAL STATUS Fully Halal (HMC)
Boo. is a well-established burger brand that boasts a number of sites and a strong burger menu, as well as fries, wings and shakes to complement their award-winning menu.
BURGER BOI
HALAL STATUS Fully Halal
Another burger place, this time it’s Burger Boi and one that also boasts plenty of branches up and down the country and a burger game that’s easily comparable to anything Leicester has to offer.
CAPTAIN HADDOCK
HALAL STATUS Fully Halal (HMC)
Captain Haddock is an acclaimed fully Halal fish and chips national franchise that has been plying its trade since 1983. Being HMC approved will further establish their credentials in the eyes of many others.
CHOCOBERRY

Although Chocoberry have a branch on Evington Road, this one, while not as large, is just as pretty. You’ll find plenty of delicious sweet treats here.
ETCI BABA

Etci Baba is arguably one of the most popular Halal Turkish restaurants in Leicester. As a charcoal grill and steakhouse, they keep the flames going both in the kitchen and out.
JIMMY'S

If you’re into your seafood, especially a plate piled on high with prawns, then Jimmy’s Killer Prawns is the place. In addition, they offer grills and even sushi.
JI THE CHICKEN SHOP

Ji The Chicken Shop is actually part of the growing Taiwanese fried chicken franchise, which makes this quite the unique place given that they serve the type of chicken one would find in the “traditional night market” of Taiwan.
KOBE SIZZLERS

If you enjoy your steaks presented sizzling on a hot-plate with sundries, then international franhise brand Kobe Sizzlers is the steakhouse. They offer an innovative take on the Halal (HMC) steak scene.
KONAK

Konak is the more civilised Turkish restaurant when compared to Itci Baba. Here they offer plenty of choices ranging from hot and cold mezzes to the clean flavours represented by their grill game.
MADISONS

Madisons is a cafe whose Muslim owners also run Italian eatery Affogato in the town centre. Not only do they specialise in coffees, alongside freshly-made snacks, but also have an onsite ice cream maker which results in some amazing inhouse gelato.
McINDIANS

This is an interesting brand that has a number of sites littered across the city. McIndians offer piri piri chicken whose recipe originates from Mozambique.
Mumbai Inn is a large, multi-award winning, Indian and Nepalese curry house that has won the Leicester Curry Awards three years in succession.

An-Najeeb are an HMC-certified, Indo-Chinese restaurant with a large selection of menu items and who also offer catering services.
SAFFRON STREET

Saffron Street was featued as part of FtLion’s Halal restaurant tour of Leicester. With a branch in London, they have arguably one of the best interiors of any Indian restaurant in the city and a menu to boot.
SHIMLA PINKS

This traditional Indian restaurant is another award-winning place. Shimla Pinks serves a massive variety, with plenty to have diners coming back time and time again.
TANGASTEY

Tangastey is a small curry joint with limited seating that have an interesting menu comprising of curry bowls, Indo-Chinese offerings, a selection of biryanis, wraps, and even serve thalis.
