Halal food at restaurants & takeaways in Leicester city centre

Located on Gallowtree Gate, Affogato is a spacious restaurant with an enthralling Italian menu and a huge counter showcasing a range of 24 flavours of smooth Italian gelato ice cream that are all homemade.

Diners can grab a quick bite from their Breakfast and Brunch menu that include the newly-introduced Sausage and Bacon Muffin, or a Caprese facaccia with mozzarella cheese, sun-dried tomatoes & basil pesto. If you enjoy Turkish grilled food, then Bodrum on 737 Aylestone Road serve shawarma, doner, and a combination of kebabs like the traditional yoghurt-based ones, as well as hot and cold starters. Indoor seating is available too.

While Bru on 21 Granby Street is another choice for cofffee and handmade gelato, their choices are extensive with loose leaf tea, hot chocolates, a range of iced drinks, freshly baked waffles, cookie dough, and dessert classics such as apple pie and custard.

Promising “little Paris in the centre of Leicester”, that is 10-12 Cank Street, Chloe Gourmet is both a cafe and a French patisserie which sells pastries such as tarts, cakes, entremets, in addition to salads, bagels and sandwiches like the famous croque-monsieur.

Creams in 4 Granby Place requires little introduction as the UK’s most successful fully Halal desserts brand. They have everything from sundaes, waffles, loaded cookie doughs, to pancakes and doughnuts.

CUPP in East Gate of the city’s centre is a beverage company and the place to visit for some refreshing bubble tea. Using loose-leaf tea, fresh fruit, organic milk, and housemade brown sugar syrup, they offer the “freshest and healthiest” bubble tea.

Falafel Shawarma on 39 Gallowtree Gate is one of those small, unassuming fast food places which only the locals know about as a hidden gem. A very popular place that serves Lebanese street food “made with love”.

German Doner Kebab is one of those very successful fully Halal restaurant brands that have acquired the reputation and position to abbreviate their name to GDK. Located on the corner of 33 Granby Street and Bishop Street, it specialises in healthy doner kebab, with plenty of seating.

On 26 Granby Place, there’s an Indian restaurant called Indiana which, while serving alcohol, offers a fully Halal food menu with “only fresh ingredients without any artificial flavours”.

International chicken franchise Jollibee on 8 Haymarket Towers, Humberstone Gate, is a double storey site that specialises in Filipino fried chicken. Expect unique food combos including crispy fried chicken with a side of sweet spaghetti.

There’s also chicken burgers, hot dogs, fries, desserts, like Tropical Chicken Burger, Asian Slaw, Mango Coconut Sundae, and Asian Chicken Tender Rice Bowl as part of their diverse menu range.

There’s probably even less Korean and Japanese cuisine places in the UK, which makes Kokoro on 19 Gallowtree Gate a very favourable option. With

Just on the outskirts of the city centre is Little Dessert Shop on 49 Belgrave Gate which we’d say is a better version of Creams, with a very well-rounded menu of American Waffles, Doughlicous Cookie Dough, the ever-popular Tres Leches, and so much more.

Bang smack in the middle of the city centre on 12 St Martins is the famous Mowgli, whose owner is none other than celebrity chef, Nisha Katona. The menu, which is fully Halal, is inspired by India’s vibrant street food.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is an American burger and chicken brand on 10 Gallowtree Gate which, despite serving a breakfast menu in the morning which is not Halal, serves a daytime menu that is.

If you’re after Halal McDonald’s and Burger King, then look no further than Slamburger on Granby Place which offers their copy-cat versions and more.

While Spicy Wok is another fast food Indo-Chinese noodle box place, it also offers a range of grilled chicken and burgers to mix things up on 139 East Park Road while being HMC Halal.

Although not all the branches of international brand Taco Bell cater for Halal, the one on 8 Gallowtree Gate certainly does, with a Mexican-inspired menu comprising of quesadillas, tacos, burritos, and nachos, among other things.

Located on 12 East Gates, Canadian chain Tim Hortons offer a number of Halal items that include Turkey Hot Dog (be sure to order with tomato ketchup and not the maple & chorizo ketchup which is sold as standard), Tims Crispy Chicken and the Tims Chicken Tenders.

Yummitos on 15 Granby Place is a peri grill fast food joint that isn’t just HMC Halal, but offers pizzas, kebabs, chicken platters, wraps and burgers.

Although not a walk-in restaurant, The City Rooms is a spectacular Georgian, Grade 1 listed hotel venue which, aside from a banqueting hall catering for 200 people, smaller halls accommodating upto 50 each, and boutique bedrooms, also offers a fully Halal food menu.
