We are professionals so have to be careful dealing with dietary requirements plus Halal food requests; and we will always follow standard procedures to avoid cross-contamination, etc. – Chef Rohit Ghai

The first Indian chef to receive a Michelin star in less than a year is to open a new Indian restaurant called Manthan this summer in Mayfair.

Chef Rohit Ghai has already confirmed that not only will there be Halal options available, but also clarified how important the issue of cross-contamintion is to him.

“We are professionals so have to be careful dealing with dietary requirements plus Halal food requests; and we will always follow standard procedures to avoid cross-contamination, etc.,” the Chef told FtLion.

Manthan (meaning to churn and reflect) will be Ghai’s third restaurant alongside his most recent Koolcha in Boxpark Wembley (rated 3.5/5 by FtLion) and his more famous Kutir which this week received a Certificate of Achievement from Harden’s for ‘Outstanding Food’.

Located on Maddox Street, however, Manthan will certainly face stiff competition from fellow Michelin Chef Atul Kochhar’s Indian restaurant Kanishka (rated 4.5/5 by FtLion) a few doors down.

Having again partnered up with co-founder and front of house Abhi Sangwan, Manthan will be serving sharing plates such as sarson chicken chop with mustard; goat shami kebab in bone marrow sauce; and ghati masala prawns with peanut; along with an extensive mocktail menu.

Ghai said on his Instagram account: “After a difficult time, we are so appreciative and humbled to be launching a new restaurant in the part of London where we have such great memories. We look forward to welcoming regular and new guests and giving them a memorable experience.”
