‘Few racists’ vandalise My Karak Chai cafe in Newcastle
A Halal cafe in Newcastle upon Tyne has reportedly been vandalised in what is suspected to be a racist incident.
My Karak Chai has posted a video on Instagram showing damage to both the inside and outside of its branch on West Road.
Calling it a “minor incident”, a representative of the Indian street food brand said: “A few racist individuals had smashed our shop windows [sic].”
With the video showing smashed windows and a damaged counter inside, with police also attending the scene, the representative assured that the shop would be back to normal in a few days.
Comments of support were posted with one user saying: “So sorry this happened to you guys. There’s no place in society for hateful people like that,” while another observed: “Well, racism is rife in the UK atm.”
Although there was no indication of any video evidence of the alleged incident, one user went so far as to urge: “Expose them, show all of us so we can name and shame.”
