Described as the UK’s first eco-conscious consumer market, Buck Street Market in Camden is set to reopen today with a number of exciting Halal options.

The market launched earlier this year in March with recycled shipping containers taking over a part of Camden Market on the corner of Buck Street and Camden High Street.

Of the twenty-odd sustainable food brands spread over 3-levels, the following street food traders make this market an exciting Halal destination.

According to the Buck Street Market website, Arepa, which serves gluten free cornbread pockets filled with either shredded beef, slow cooked for 6 hours, or grilled chicken, and topped with an assortment of ingredients, says “all their meat is Halal and can be made vegetarian or vegan if that’s your flavour”.

Rico Burrito, which dishes up “authentic Mexican street food, offering much loved burritos, naked bowls and nachos” is another brand that confirms: “All our meat is Halal and we offer vegan and gluten free options too.”

Smoke & Bones – UK’s first all-Halal American BBQ street food brand

Although not overtly describing themselves as Halal, Smoke & Bone, a brand that’s quickly grown in popularity, is the “UK’s first all-Halal American BBQ street food” vendor, and offer “authentic American prime USDA beef, smoked and grilled to perfection”.

From the Halal-friendly ones, i.e. those that cater for Halal, is family-run eatery Nusa Kitchen who serves South-East Asian food with a twist that includes a variety of hearty soups, rice boxes, salads and breakfasts.

They’ve confirmed: “All our meat is Halal, and there are only one or two of our soups that have some white wine inside. Noodles and rice boxes are all Halal.”

Also Yaki Box, whose sushi and yaki stall has been a regular on Camden Lock Place, have confirmed that not only is their food “alcohol free and nut free”, but also that they are “only using Halal chicken in the Yaki Box”.

Aside from this, there’s a number of vegan options too that include the falafel business of Magic Falafel, and the plant based pretzels of Pritzl.
