New Knights Kitchen in Edinburgh caters for Halal

Though hailing from East Africa our food draws upon influences from across the continent, bringing flavours from Kenya and beyond to the streets of Edinburgh.

A popular African food market stall in Edinburgh attracted a queue of hungry diners on the opening day of its first takeaway store this week, it was reported.

Knights Kitchen, which has been operating at markets in Leith, Stockbridge and on the Grassmarket, has now launched on Leith Walk.

FtLion has been informed that “all our chicken and beef [are Halal]” and said that they can cater to the deitary requirements of their customers.

What’s more, they added: “Our chicken curry is cooked in a slow cooker. Our steak meat is cooked on a designated frying pan [and] cooked to order. We have different pans for non-Halal.”

While their take away menu also states: “Please let us know about any special dietary requirements,” Kenyan street food at the heart of this Kitchen.

“Inspired by Mama’s jikoni (kitchen),” this family-run business, that’s led by Kenyan chef Christine Knights, promises “home-cooked soul food”.

“Cooking and eating together is an important part of Kenyan culture and one we love to share. Though hailing from East Africa our food draws upon influences from across the continent, bringing flavours from Kenya and beyond to the streets of Edinburgh,” the team said.

Dishes include Haggis Caribbean pasties, huge North African scones, samosas and warming curries and stews.
