German Doner Kebab (GDK) has announced the opening of 12 more restaurants across the country by the end of year which will create 480 jobs.

Despite the turmoil across the hospitality sector, the fully Halal chain currently boasts 47 restaurants and has seen sales rise thanks to the Government’s Eat Out To Help Out scheme.

While looking to open new sites in Liverpool, Nottingham, Bradford, Plymouth, London and Edinburgh, the franchise is also aiming to open more international sites in Canada, Sweden and Saudi Arabia.

– Imran Sayeed, GDK chief executive officer

GDK chief executive officer, Imran Sayeed, said: “We have found ourselves in very challenging times. However, there continues to be a huge demand for the German Doner Kebab experience throughout the UK and our international growth regions.

“We are excited to build further momentum in our plans for growth and to be creating hundreds of new jobs throughout the country as we maintain our mission of building the fast-casual brand of the future.”

Having been founded in Germany in 1989 before launching in the UK in 2016, GDK employs some 1,500 people and revealed that UK same-store sales had jumped by 46% in August against the same month last year.

Sayeed added: “We have been incredibly agile and responsive to a fast-changing landscape during the pandemic.

“Our recent performance is testament to our wider strategy of product innovation, the ingenuity and speed of our operational team and the support we have had from our partners.”
